Gardai use taser gun on man

Gardai were forced to call in the Regional Support Unit (RSU) who had to use a taser gun to disarm a man at St Mel's over the weekend. On Saturday at 4pm gardai were called to an incident in St Mel's Terrace where a disturbance was taking place on the street. They attempted to arrest a local man in his late 20s who resisted arrest and produced a metal weapon. Gardai then called in the RSU and officers had to use a taser gun to disarm the man. He was arrested and brought to Athlone Garda Station where he was charged with an offence under the Offensive Weapons Act. He was bailed to Athlone District Court on April 6.
