Local woman hit with bottle in Roscommon town assault

Gardai in Roscommon say they are following a definite line of inquiry in relation to a serious assault of a young woman from the Athlone area in the town on Sunday night. The woman, who is in her 20s, was struck on the head and neck with a bottle between 9pm and 9.30pm on the street at The Square in Roscommon town. She received head injuries and was later rushed to Roscommon County Hospital. However, her injuries were not life threatening and the victim, who comes from the Athlone area, was subsequently discharged later that night.Gardai confirmed they are following a definite line of inquiry in relation to the assault but they appealed for any witnesses to the incident who have not yet spoken to them to come forward in confidence at 090 6638300. Meanwhile, gardai are also looking for the public's help to trace a water pump stolen from a cruiser moored at Lecarrow harbour. The theft of the Jebasco water pump worth around €500 happened between June 13 and 15 last.
