Work to begin next summer on new Council HQ

Construction work should begin this time next year on new civic offices for Roscommon County Council, County Manager Frank Dawson confirmed on Monday last. Responding to a query from Cllr McGreal about the future of the flagship project, Mr Dawson said the civic offices project is very much underway and is currently at design stage. He said he looked forward to many people being employed in the construction of the project over probably two years, a building which he said will make the council more efficient and address any accommodation deficiencies at present. "I imagine if everything goes smoothly it should start this time next year," Roscommon County Manager, Frank Dawson told members at Monday's council meeting. "There is a procedure it has to go through. It is underway though and not under question," he stressed. Earlier, Cllr Michael McGreal expressed hopes that the civic centre project would lead the way in the county and provide much needed employment boost to the construction sector. He said with so many skilled tradespeople leaving the country for work, a flagship project was badly needed to stem the tide in the county.
