Fun cycle raises €1,700 for South Westmeath Hospice

Two local families recently raised €1,700 for the South Westmeath Hospice by holding family fun cycle from Moate to Athlone. On July 2 while the Triathlone was getting underway members of the Doran and Gleeson families held a family fun cycle in aid of South Westmeath Hospice. They raised a whopping €1,700. The cycle was organised by Johnny Doran in memory of his sister Delia (Gleeson) and his sister-in-law Anne Doran (nee Kerrigan) who both passed away last year. Delia was cared for by the wonderful staff at the hospice and this fun cycle was a fitting tribute to both these wonderful women. A large gathering assembled at Johnny and Ann Doran's house in Moate where Ann and her family provided delicious home baked refreshments before the cyclists got on their way. Delia's daughter provided them with high visibility vests and the hospice gave them t-shirts although some preferred county jerseys. The organisers of the cycle this week thanked Moate gardai who provided an escort through the busy streets of Moate and before they put the heads down and set off on their journey to Athlone. They also thanked the marshals for their help and support along the way. The fun cycle saw men, women and children taking part on everything from tandems to tricylces and there was great family spirit from all involved. After arriving in Athlone the cyclists were provided with more well earned refreshments courtesy of The Tack Room. The organisers this week thanked everyone who helped out and said they make it an annual event.
