Argos launches recruitmentfor up to 20 Christmas jobs
Up to 20 seasonal jobs look set to come on stream in Athlone over the next few months to deal with the expected Christmas rush at the Argos store in Golden Island Shopping Centre. A spokesperson for the company confirmed to the Westmeath Independent that recruitment is now underway to fill 800 temporary posts across the county in the run-up to festive season, with estimates of 15 to 20 of these jobs located in Athlone. With the unemployment rate currently at 14.3% in Ireland, the announcement is welcome news in a struggling job market. With 70% of the population living less than thirty minutes from one of the 41 Argos stores, the new roles will be accessible nationwide, the company said this week. Along with flexible working hours, training and competitive pay, new recruits will get an immediate 10% staff discount, helping to ease the pinch on their own shopping costs. With 19,000 products available at Argos this Christmas they won't need to shop anywhere else. "Argos is a fun, interesting and busy place to be over Christmas so we are excited about finding passionate and enthusiastic staff that can join the team. With thousands of customers passing through our doors over the period, the new recruits will really help us deliver great customer service this Christmas," Terry Duddy, Argos Managing Director enthused. Many temporary seasonal staff enjoy the Argos Christmas spirit so much that they don't want to leave and go on to go on to secure permanent roles at the retailer. Mark Noonan, is just one example of a senior colleague that started his Argos career as a temporary Christmas employee. Mark says: "The atmosphere in store over the Christmas period is fantastic and there is a real team spirit amongst the staff. It's nice to know that you are helping customers make their Christmas a good one."
