School extension proposals in Ballymahon go to planning stage

The long running campaign for new accommodation at Ballymahon Vocational School has moved a step closer to bricks and mortar in recent days, after an application was lodged with Longford County Council for the development. Longford VEC has applied to build an extension to the current school in the town consisting of three new classrooms to provide an additional 225 square metres of additional accommodation. Two of the new rooms will be 50 square metres in size with the third 100 square metres. An enclosure of existing covered way to form additional corridor circulation space of 50 square metres is also earmarked along the north boundary of existing school with related ancillary site works. The Minister for Education first announced that the extension and extensive redevelopment to the old school building of Ballymahon Vocational School, way back in 2009. A decision from Longford County Council planners is due on the 4th of December next.
