Cheltenham winner set for Kilbeggan appearance

Cheltenham winner Carlito Brigante will line up at Kilbeggan on Monday night. The Gordon Elliot trained six-year-old is the class act on show in the Tyrrellspass Novice Chase at 8pm. Owned by Michael O'Leary The Gigginstown House Stud, Carlito Brigante famously landed the 2011 Coral Cup at the Cheltenham Festival, and has amassed almost €150,000 in his career to date. Carlito Brigante opened its chasing account at the first time of asking at Killarney in May and connections will be hopeful he can land this event before going on to bigger and better things. The Kilbeggan racecourse is set in the heart of the midlands, and also places itself in the heart of every racing fan young and old. Monday's eagerly awaited student evening takes on Monday, June 25, and is sure to attract a large crowd. With entertainment from the "Rubberbandits", as well as some guest DJs, the student evening at Kilbeggan offers unrivalled enjoyment throughout the seven race card that simply cannot be missed. The action gets under way at 6pm with the www.kilbegganraces.com Maiden Hurdle, and race goers can get off to a promising start with the Dessie Hughes trained Chase the Favourite. A runner up at this course on her last start behind the Willie Mullins trained Sin Palo, that effort signalled real intent and she can go one better under the guidance of the talented jockey Bryan Cooper. Recent course winner, Mister Benedictine is in search of a hat trick of successes in the Fay Bookmakers Handicap Hurdle of €15,000, which is one of four generously sponsored races on the card. Noel Meade looks to have a live contender in the shape of Dark Prospect who looks well handicapped judging on previous form. Whispering Hills looked good value for his four-length success at Tipperary last time and looks sure to play a leading role in the following 7pm T&V Novice Hurdle, in what is a very high class renewal. Gigginstown House are also represented in the Tyrrellspass Novice Chase event with Price Ludovic and Tackmaster, and the former bids to follow up from his course and distance success over Canaly here three weeks ago. Paul Carberry takes the ride and is bidding to emulate his triumph of twelve months ago, when guided the Leonard Whitmore trained Casey Top to victory in the corresponding event. It would be a fitting finale if Canaly could gain compensation in the concluding Loughnagore Beginners Chase. This talented seven-year-old has twice been placed at Kilbeggan this term, and was stopped in his tracks when making his presence felt last time. A win is overdue and he can send punters home smiling in what looks sure to be an evening full of excitement at Kilbeggan.
