Farrell wins Leinster golf title

MOATE Golf Club's Amy Farrell recently added the East Leinster Women's Strokeplay Senior Championship to her ever-growing list of honours. The 20-year-old, from Castledaly, defeated Sarah Cunningham, from Ennis, in the final at Luttrellstown Castle Golf Club, following an excellent few days of golf from the young Westmeath woman. Amy's latest success follows a similar achievement at the Munster Women's Strokeplay Senior Championship in April, when she defeated Muskerry's Jean O'Driscoll. There was a dramatic finish to the Munster final, with O'Driscoll sinking a magnificent putt on the 18th hole to take the match down the 19th, where Amy snatched the championship. At the Munster tournament, Amy also beat The Heath's Mary Doyle, another up and coming player, in the semi-final. A Health & Sports Science student at Dublin City University, Amy is on an elite sports scholarship from the college. A daughter of Bernard and Margaret Farrell, Amy is a past pupil of St Colmcille's NS, Ballinahown, and Our Lady's Bower, Athlone. Amy played Gaelic football and hockey for the Bower, and she has also represented Garrycastle in ladies football and Bealnamulla in soccer.
