Busy autumn schedule at Roscommon Arts Centre

Roscommon Arts Centre recently published the new programme covering events from September right through until December. This autumn the Arts Centre has a packed programme covering everything from theatre, visual art, music, literature, comedy, film, dance and classes to ensure that there is something to keep everyone entertained heading into the long winter nights. Music lovers will be delighted to hear of the return of The Fureys and Davey Arthur, Saturday, September 28, and Tommy Fleming, Saturday, October 13. A wonderful pre-Christmas party night by ABBA Forever will have you dancing in the aisles on Friday, December 7, and the 'Man with the Golden Trumpet' Johnny Carroll will play for one night only on Saturday, December 8. Classical music lovers are in for a treat with a performance by the RTÉ Vanbrugh Quartet accompanied by the world famous violinist Nobuko Imai on Tuesday, November 27. Caoimhín O'Raghallaigh and friends will host a trad session on Saturday, November 3. Bearing in mind that the country is filled with doom and gloom at the moment the arts centre brings plenty of laughs your way with three super comedians and the height of their game: Des Bishop performs on Thursday, November 8, followed by family favourite Conal Gallen on Friday, November 9. Neil Delamere makes a welcome return after his sold out gig last year with his new show start from Edinburgh on Saturday, December 1. Star Trekkers can look forward to the hilarious One-Man Star Wars Trilogy on Tuesday, October 16, giving you a fast-paced, side-splitting evening of the story of Star Wars condensed into one hilarious hour. The Nualas come to the Arts Centre for 'One Night of Dignity' a brand new comedy-music show by this hilarious trio on Friday, October 5. Roscommon's theatre goers have plenty to look forward to with performances by some of the country's best professional companies and actors over the autumn season. Geraldine Plunkett (Glenroe's Mary) stars in Woman and Scarecrow on Tuesday, September 25. Mary McEvoy, another Glenroe star, features in Fruitcake on Tuesday, October 9. Roscommon native Ben Mulhern stars in Eden from Thursday, November 15 to Saturday, November 17. Nomad Theatre Network will once again team up with the great Livin' Dred Theatre Company for a production of Ride On by Cavan Seamus O'Rourke on Friday and Saturday, December 14 and 15. For anyone who has seen Victor's Dung this is one not to be missed. The National Ballet of Ireland will present Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker on Friday, November 2- sure to be a treat with both younger and older ballet enthusiasts! Conscious of the economic downturn Roscommon Arts Centre also offers a number of free events including Visual Art Tours & Workshops, the Filmed Educational Screenings for secondary schools and this October will offer schools around the county the opportunity to host an arts facilitator as part of the Artist in Schools Residency Programme. Entrance into the Visual Art gallery is always free.
