Westmeath eliminated from O'Byrne Cup

WESTMEATH'S involvement in the 2013 Bord na Mona O'Byrne Cup came to an end on Sunday, when they fell to a one-point defeat to Offaly at Cusack Park, Mullingar. Emmet McDonnell's Offaly overturned a 0-2 to 0-6 half-time deficit to set-up a semi-final clash with Kildare. Westmeath beat Athlone IT in the opening round of fixtures, but have since slumped to defeats against Laois and Offaly. Athlone IT's campaign concluded with a third straight defeat, as they lost 2-12 to 0-13 against Laois in Portarlington. Roscommon, meanwhile, recorded their first victory under recently appointed new manager, John Evans, when comfortably disposing of GMIT in the FBD Insurance Connacht Senior Football League. Roscommon take on Mayo this coming weekend. See this week's Westmeath Independent for full details of all three of last weekend's games.
