Two-year-old boy in critical condition after Ballymahon accident

A 2-year-old boy is in a critical condition in a Dublin hospital after a single-car accident in Ballymahon. The crash happened at Terlicken, Ballymahon on Thursday afternoon around 1.20pm as the blue Ford Galaxy travelling in the direction of Lanesboro lost control and hit a wall on the main R392 road. Seven occupants of the car, three adults and four children, were injured in the crash and later rushed by ambulance to Mullingar Hospital. A 2-year-old-boy was later transferred to Temple Street Children's Hospital in Dublin with serious injuries. He is said to be in a critical condition today (Friday). The other occupants are not understood to have life threatening injuries. The road was closed for a time on Thursday to facilitate the Garda investigation. It is due shut to traffic today (Friday) from 11am to allow forensic accident investigators to carry out an examination of the scene. Gardai in Longford and Ballymahon are looking for witnesses to the crash to come forward.
