Roscommon VEC holds final meeting

Yesterday marked a milestone in education provision in Roscommon as the county's Vocational Education Committee (VEC) held its last meeting as a standalone entity.

Roscommon VEC is about to be merged with Galway's City and County VECs.

'It's a sad day but an historic day,' said Cllr Jimmy Kenny, the last chairperson of Roscommon VEC, ahead of yesterday's meeting 

The merged VECs are due to be headquartered in Athenry, while the Roscommon VEC offices on Lanesboro Street in Roscommon town are expected to be retained as a sub-office.
