Battle of the Saints in prospect after Vincent's win Dublin decider

By Kieran Galvin

Westmeath senior football champions St Loman's Mullingar will face St Vincent's of Dublin in the Leinster club SFC quarter-finals at Cusack Park this Sunday (2.30pm).

St Vincent's edged out Ballymun Kickhams in the Dublin SFC final replay at Parnell Park last night (Wednesday), and will now face their third big game in the space of eight days.

The Marino side's victory last night came at a considerable cost, with Dublin attacking ace Diarmuid Connolly being sent off on a straight red card. He is now set to miss the clash against St Loman's through suspension.

Ballymun reached the 2013 All-Ireland club final in which they were defeated by St Brigid's of Roscommon in a hugely memorable final.

Ballymun's defeat inside their own county is another demonstration of the competitive nature of the Dublin championship.

Although St Loman's have a number of advantages on their side - the home venue; the fatigue factor on the Vincent's side; and now the suspension of Connolly - it will still be a very tall order to beat St Vincent's.

Dublin clubs have won six out of the last ten Leinster championships; and indeed, St Vincent's won the All-Ireland club title when they last emerged from Dublin (2007-2008).

Meanwhile, Southern Gaels are in action in the Leinster Club Special JHC against Mountmellick on Sunday. The Athlone side must travel to face the Laois outfit (throw-in: 2.30pm).

Elsewhere, Westmeath intermediate champions St Malachy's take on Geraldines of Louth in Haggardstown. Malachy's defeated Caulry in the Westmeath intermediate final after a replay.
