Reform of CAP to be debated in Four Roads

An information meeting on how the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) will affect farmers in county Roscommon is to be hosted by Cllr Laurence Fallon in Four Roads Community Centre tomorrow (Monday) at 9pm.
Fundamental changes are taking place regarding how farmers will access their single farm payments in future and decisions taken by farmers now could impact substantially on their draw down of single farm payments between now and 2021.
While there are still a number of areas awaiting clarity, a significant number of decisions have already been made and it is now becoming clear as to what farmers need to do to maximise their single farm payment over the next six years.
As a result, Cllr Laurence Fallon will be hosting a public meeting in Four Roads Community Centre where a discussion will be held on the single farm payment as it affects farmers in Co. Roscommon.
Guest speakers on the night will include John Fagan, a commercial sheep farmer from Westmeath and a regular contributor to the Farming Independent, who will talk about maximising income under the new CAP. His fellow guest speaker will be Joe Carty from Galway who is an agricultural consultant who specialises in single farm payment applications, REPS applications and cross-compliance requirements. He will talk about CAP reform going forward, how different types of farmers may be affected and what farmers need to be doing in order to maximise their CAP payments into the future.
Cllr Fallon will also give a brief presentation on the importance of the single farm payment to Roscommon farmers while the discussion will be chaired by Deputy Denis Naughten.
The meeting will be of benefit to all farmers in county Roscommon and should also be of significant benefits to farmers who may have retired since the single farm payment was introduced.
