Record-breaking temperature on the way?

The highest temperature record for Ireland may well be broken this coming weekend, according to the latest report from the Midland Weather Channel.

Latest weather charts indicate that an area of high pressure will become stationary over the country this coming weekend, which will ensure light winds, clear skies and sunny spells throughout.

Temperatures will break the 30 degree mark widely across the Midlands with perhaps some areas pushing towards a record equaling, or even record breaking, 33.3 degrees Celsius.

Drought conditions, which have already been reported in many areas of the country, are set to intensify over the coming week with many areas again likely to experience no rainfall.

Tomorrow, Wednesday, however, a small area of low pressure will generate more instability in the atmosphere, which, combined with the very high temperatures, will cause some isolated thunderstorms to develop across the Midlands. Where these storms do occur they may produce frequent lightning and some spot flooding.

A status red warning remains in place for forest fires, with boglands being particularly at risk.
