County by county breakdown of coronavirus cases expected later this week

A county-by-county breakdown of confirmed Coronavirus cases in Ireland is expected to be issued this week, according to a Department of Health spokesperson.

To date, all confirmed cases in the Republic have been categorised as being in either the East, West, South or North West of the country - and it is believed there are a number of COVID-19 cases from the Midlands but which have been classified as part of the figures for the East.
On Monday, we contacted the Department of Health press office to ask if, under this categorisation, Westmeath was classified as being in the East of the country and Roscommon was categorised as being in the West.
The Department spokesperson we contacted told us she was not in a position to clarify this. Instead, she indicated that the categorisation of cases would be changing this week in order to give a county-by-county breakdown.
In a briefing last week, Dr Tony Holohan, Chief Medical Officer with the Department of Health, indicated that the numbers had risen to the extent that county breakdowns could soon be provided without the potential for breaching patient confidentiality.
