Kitchen table quiz on Facebook proves popular for local farmer

In a bid to keep the spirits up during troubled times, a Roscommon farmer is creating the atmosphere of “a great night out” every Friday for charity with his Kitchen Table Quiz on Facebook Live.

Will Keane from Ballymurray, who many people will know as a member of the popular Ukephoric music group in Knockcroghery, held his first quiz last Friday in aid of Daffodil Day, and it was a great success raising €2,400 by Monday for the Irish Cancer Society.
“For me I do table quizzes for Jack and Jill and other local causes anyway. It's keeps me entertained coming up with them so it's as beneficial for me as for the people doing it. It's a great distraction,” he said from all the bad news out there and it's an attempt to have a bit of fun when all our social outlets are closed.
Will said he  is “overwhelmed” with the response so far, thanking his family and friends for spreading the word. Participants are encouraged to donate for the chosen charity, this week it's CMRF Crumlin, who provide vital funding for CHI Crumlin (previously known as Our Lady's Children's Hospital, Crumlin) and The National Children's Research Centre.
“There were 170 consecutive streams on Friday, it did drop when the Taoiseach made a For me I do table quizzes for Jack and Jill and other local causes anyway. It’s keeps me entertained coming up with them so it’s as beneficial for me as for the people doing it. It’s a great distraction, big announcement in the middle of it,” Will laughed, promising more jokes this week, higher production values, and even a live music round.
Explaining how it works, he added: “I publish a question sheet on my page that people can fill out. We don't do scoring, we tried to organise that through emails but it became too complicated. It's just for fun; a lot played via the House Party app so they had me on one screen and their friends/family on the other, while families were playing each other. It's good fun, I try to keep it as light as possible and make it like a great night out”.

Will, a suckler and beef farmer, said he's happy to run the quiz for as long as the lockdown continues, and he encouraged everyone to look up his Facebook event page Will's Kitchen table Quiz for CMRF Crumlin, with a link for the Facebook Live feed to be posted there at 8pm on Friday. The quiz proper begins at 8.30pm.
