Athlone jockey secured a sensational win last night

Athlone flat jockey Stevie Donohoe's riding talents were on full show last night at Great Yarmouth, when he steered 18/1 shot Kentucky Hardboot to a sensational win.

Handlers experienced difficulty in getting the three-year-old gelding into the stalls before the seven furlong sprint even started.

And things looked worse for the Mohamed Moubarak trained runner when he began slowly and trailed the field for much of the race.

WATCH: Donohoe's sensational ride here:

At the two furlong mark, there seemed little hope as Kentucky Hardboot was still at the tail of the field, but under Donohoe, he began to motor.

With a furlong to go, the majority of the runners were still to catch but with a remarkable turn of pace inside the last furlong, Donohoe's charge came home with 2 ¾ lengths to spare.

It was a sensational riding performance that had social media users purring.

It marked a great last fortnight since the COVID-19 restrictions eased for Donohoe, who has been based in England for 15 years.

He marked the return to racing in the UK with a winner at Yarmouth on June 3rd before adding another victory on board Richard Hughes's Twice as Likely in Lingfield on Sunday.
