New thunderstorm warning in effect for Westmeath

A thunderstorm warning is in effect for Westmeath and 13 other counties until 9pm this evening (Tuesday).

Met Eireann issued the yellow-level weather warning, which came into effect from 7am today.

The affected counties are: Carlow, Dublin, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Longford, Louth, Meath, Offaly, Tipperary, Waterford, Westmeath, Wexford, and Wicklow.

The national meteorological service said today is likely to bring thunderstorms with hail, mainly in parts of east Munster and Leinster.

It added that there's a risk of severe downpours and "some surface flooding" in places.
