A post on its Facebook page read: “It is with very mixed emotions that we post this today. As many of you know we have been considering retirement for some time now. We will not be reopening the doors of our family run business that has been our whole lives for the past 34 years.

“Never once in our numerous conversations about retirement and closing did we envisage a goodbye like this or how hard it would be. We want to thank all our customers, our staff, family and friends for your continued support through the years. Our gratitude is impossible to put into words and the list of thank you's is endless.

“The hard work, tears, laughter, amazing memories and wonderful friendships will always be cherished.... but for now it's on to the next chapter.”

The business officially opened on July 25, 1986, under brother and sister Michael and Marie Brooks and has been operated by members of the Brooks family since.

They had previously operated a restaurant business at the Cornloft in Bealnamulla.

The building which houses the Glasson Village Restaurant dates back almost 200 years old and previously was the home of the Garda barracks in the Village of the Roses.
