Local golfers Conor Glennon (Glasson), Charlie Kelly (Athlone) and Dean Kerrigan (Moate) are set to take part in the Ireland Championship as part of the Faldo Series.

The event commences in Glasson Golf Club next Monday, July 27. And with Glasson hosting the event for junior golfers, Glennon will be playing on home turf.

Roscommon GC quartet Thomas Higgins, Fionn Hoare, Olivia Costello and Simon Walker will also be among those competing.

The best Irish junior golfers will compete for a coveted place in the 24th Faldo Series Europe Grand Final, which will take place at the Al Ain Equestrian, Shooting & Golf Club in Abu Dhabi in November.

The Glasson event will start early next Monday morning and will run over three days, with the conclusion on Wednesday, July 29.

Lynn McCool, Director of Golf at Glasson Golf Club, said the club is "delighted" to be hosting the event.

"The Christy O’Connor Jnr designed course will be a great challenge for all the age groups. I have for many years been involved in this event and it is such a great tournament with Ireland’s finest youths and juniors competing to make it to the Grand Final," said Lynn.

“It is exciting that the event is coming to Co. Westmeath and will be good to stage within Irelands Hidden Heartlands. Sir Nick Faldo and his team are great to work with, I admire the time and investment Sir Nick has put in to driving our next generation of golfers. I look forward to welcoming his team to Glasson Golf Club,” added Lynn.
