Key game on Friday in fight for CCFL Senior Division crown

Two sides will face off tomorrow night in a game that will have a major bearing on the destination of this year's CCFL Senior Division title.

Derry Rovers host Birr Town in Brian's Park, School Lane, Edenderry, Friday at 8pm.

Derry Rovers have confirmed the game will be open to spectators, subject to Government guidelines, with names being taken for contact tracing purposes.

A victory for Derry Rovers will put them very much in the driving seat for the league title, with just one win needed from their final two games.

Conversely, a victory for Birr Town would leave them within one win of securing at least a play off.

Derry Rovers still have tough games at home to Monksland Utd (who are also still in the reckoning) and away to Ballinahown.

A draw on Friday night, and a Derry Rovers defeat to Monksland Utd would hand the title to the Athlone side.

Birr Town's other remaining league game is away to Clara Town.

A league title for either Derry Rovers or Birr Town would end a run of 12 consecutive league titles for Athlone-based sides. The last side from outside Athlone to win the top division of the CCFL was Clara Town in 2006/2007.
