Farm incomes down by over 10%

Farm incomes in Westmeath fell by over 10 percent in 2018, according to a new report by Revenue.

The recently published The Farming Sector in Ireland report for 2018 reveals that in 2018 the average farm income of the 4206 farmers who filed returns in 2018 was €19,411, compared to €22,094 the year before; a decrease of 12%.

However, while their incoming from agriculture was down in 2018, local farmers' overall gross income increased slightly from €48,898 in 2017 to €49,373 the year after.

Farmers in County Dublin (€33,596) had the highest farm incomes in 2018, followed by Waterford (€32,807), Kilkenny (€31,154) and Tipperary (€300,83).

Leitrim farmers (€8,794) had the lowest average income Mayo (€10,218), Sligo (€10,824) and Donegal (€11386).
