Mobile homes burned during several days of unrest in Moate

Another mobile home was burned in the Farnagh area of Moate last night (Wednesday) in what was the latest of several feud-related incidents in the locality this week.

Sergeant Andrew Haran said the Gardai became aware at 9.15pm last night that a mobile home was on fire.

This is believed to be the third mobile home to have burned in Farnagh this week, and there has also been damage caused to a number of cars.

"There was an incident in Clara at the weekend, and then a lot of other incidents have taken place in the environs of Farnagh over the week," said Sergeant Haran.

"We had hoped that the situation would calm down, but unfortunately this latest incident occurred last night."

On Tuesday, four men were before Longford District Court, all of whom were charged with affray following incidents in Moate the previous afternoon.

Sergeant Haran said there had been no further arrests in connection with incidents in Farnagh, but he added that investigations were ongoing "and further arrests would be expected".
