Roscommon's 14-day COVID rate rises marginally

Roscommon's 14-day incidence of COVID-19 has topped 100 per 100,000 population for the first time.

Figures released this morning show that by midnight on Wednesday there had been 102.3 cases of COVID in Roscommon per 100,000 people over the previous 14 days.

It's the fourth highest rate in the country, behind Donegal (211.1), Dublin (159.3) and Monaghan (133).

The 14-day rate of COVID per 100,000 population.

However, notably the rate of increase in the 14-day rate in Roscommon has slowed considerably, having been at 99.3 the previous day.

NPHET is meeting today to discuss the deteriorating situation nationally – and may consider proposing further restrictions on particular counties.

However, last night, Acting Chief Medical Officer Dr Ronan Glynn emphasised that he was concerned about the situation nationally.

"I would liken it to a forest fire, where we are seeing lots of embers, lots of small issues arising in different places around the country.

"The window of opportunity for it not to be a national issue is closing."

"The message tonight is for the country, it's not for Dublin, it's not for Donegal, it's not for Monaghan or Roscommon in isolation or Cork or Galway...it's for the country to pay heed to the public health advice."
