New free Stop Smoking Service for Roscommon, Mayo and Galway

A new local stop smoking service is available to help people quit smoking. A Stop Smoking Advisor can offer free expert support throughout the journey to become an ex-smoker as well as advice on stop smoking medications that help relieve withdrawal symptoms.

This new service is provided by the HSE Health Promotion & Improvement team, Community Healthcare West (Galway, Mayo and Roscommon), with the aim of breaking the habit for good.

Just like flu, coronavirus infection may be more severe in people who smoke. However, quitting smoking helps build up natural resistance to all types of infections including coronavirus. It also helps recovery from COVID-19 and other infections. Taking the 28 day Stop Smoking Challenge this winter and can reduce your risk of coronavirus, as you are five times more likely to quit for good after such a period.
