Clara singer Alex Roe in final of TG4's Glór Tíre tonight

Local singer Alex Roe has reached the final of TG4's Glór Tíre country music talent competition, which will be broadcast from Galway this evening (Tuesday).

The Clara man made it through to the semi-final stage of Glór Tíre back in March, but the show was then put on hold due to Covid-19.

It returned to our screens last Tuesday evening when the semi-finals were filmed at the usual venue of The Quays, Galway, albeit without a live audience.

Alex, who is being mentored by Trudi Lalor, performed a song in Irish on last week's show, and then followed it up with a Big Tom medley of 'Going Out The Same Way You Came In' and 'Four Country Roads'.

Broadcaster Tom Creedon, who is one of the judges on the show, praised Alex's performance on Tuesday, describing it as "an-láidir".

It also went down well on social media, with several people stating that the local man was the standout performer among the four semi-finalists.

Alex spoke on the show about how he had been maintaining contact with his mentor, Trudi Lalor, in recent months. "It's more of a friendship now than a mentorship," he said.

Afterwards, he expressed his delight at making it through to the Glór Tíre final, saying it was "beyond my wildest dreams".

He is asking his supporters to download the Glór Tíre app on the Google Playstore or Apple Store and to use their five free votes by voting for him in the final.

Recording for this season's show started in November of last year and was due to be competed in the spring. While it took longer than anticipated, it has now reached the decisive stage.

The final of Glór Tíre will be broadcast on TG4 this evening at 9.30pm.
