Mount Temple Christmas lights to be beamed to US

Mount Temple native Padraig Allen, the lead singer with New York-based band Maclean Avenue, will host a special concert to launch the switch on of Mount Temple’s Christmas Lights for 2020.

Padraig and his band entertain their large number of Facebook followers from all over the USA on Thursdays and Saturdays nights. This year he has kindly agreed to do a live link between Mount Temple and New York to showcase the switch on of Mount Temple’s 2020 amazing festive lights display. Appropriately, the show on November 28th will honour frontline workers.

Event organiser Tom Daly said this is a unique opportunity to showcase the famous Mount Temple Christmas Lights display.

“We have been getting rave reviews over the last few years even getting a mention last year on RTÉ’s Morning Ireland. This New York link is an opportunity to connect with locals living around the world who can’t make it home this Christmas," he added.

"Indeed, Padraig and his family would normally be home over the festive period. We’ll have a number of local acts involved on the night and we’re delighted that two local frontline workers will do the actual switch on," stated Tom.

PRO for Mount Temple Christmas Lights, Cllr Frankie Keena said that there is a marvellous voluntary committee who put up the lights each year in the village.

"We are really excited and indebted to Padraig for agreeing to stream this launch to New York and subsequently throughout the USA. Fair play to Tom Daly who is Chairman of the committee for coming up with this idea," he said.

“It is a marvellous opportunity for us to not only showcase our lighting display but also to promote Mount Temple to an international audience, Cllr Keena added.

"Obviously due to COVID-19 it will not be possible to do a public face to face launch of the lights so we are inviting everyone to log into the Mount Temple Christmas Lights Facebook page on the evening of Saturday, November 28.

"A link will be provided on this page for people to view and enjoy the musical and singing entertainment rovided by fantastic local artists and from New York." Keena ended.
