Over 70 'high quality' new jobs coming to Mullingar

A medical device company from the Far East is set to create over 70 “high quality” jobs in Mullingar when it opens a new manufacturing facility in the town next year.

The as yet unnamed firm is set to open a “state of the art” new manufacturing facility in the Forest Park industrial estate next summer.

Speaking to the Westmeath Examiner, Minister of State Peter Burke says that the firm has a “significant share of the endoscopy market globally” and also manufactures optical lenses.

He added that the firm’s arrival will be a major boost to the local economy.

“I have worked closely with the new medical device company coming to our shores and setting up in Mullingar in 2021. This will be a significant jobs injection into Mullingar with an exciting pathway for further expansion.”

Deputy Burke says that around 70 “high quality jobs” will initially be created when the firm opens its facility.

“They will be starting off with over 70 in their first injection. That will be in their first phase, which I expect to happen in the first six months of next year.

“That will increase in the months ahead. The unit they have is state of the art and will be kitted out with clean rooms and there is an expansion plan on the footprint of the site.”

Minister Burke made the announcement on social media yesterday evening.
