Freezing temperatures to return tonight, with fog and frost expected

After the milder conditions of recent days, temperatures in the Midlands could drop below freezing again tonight.

Met Eireann said there's a risk of some icy patches forming by Friday morning, with light winds leading to mist and fog, particularly in Leinster.

Minimum temperatures nationally will range between 2 degrees and minus-2 degrees overnight.

Tomorrow (Friday) will be mainly dry for much of the daytime, with highest afternoon temperatures of 5 to 10 degrees.

A mild but wet night is in store on Friday, with a band of heavy and persistent rain spreading across the country from the west.

Saturday then looks set to be a cool but mostly dry day, with temperatures of 0 to 4 degrees on Saturday night.
