Kiltoom resident's company offers nursing services in the comfort of your home

A Kiltoom resident has launched an innovative initiative that allows residents in the Midlands to avail of a range of nursing services from the comfort of their own home including blood testing, disconnection of chemotherapy, and looking after dressings including PICC lines.

Heartlands Nursing Services, established by Mary Hanafin, allows members of the public who are unable or don't feel comfortable travelling to a GP to have their blood checked or other services looked after by a trained team of nurses in their own home.

An increasing number of family doctors are also using the service since the onset of Covid-19 for patients too unwell or uncomfortable travelling to a medical centre.

With the persistent presence of Covid-19 in the Midlands community, Heartlands Nursing Services affords patients the opportunity to have their blood taken by a trained phlebotomist at home, nullifying the need for a trip to their local GP.

A patient's blood pressure, heart rate and temperature is also checked as standard on every visit, the results of which are also fed back to your doctor.

Noticing a need for such a service prior to the impact of Covid-19, Mary says that with coronavirus on the rise in the community, demand for use of the blood collection service and other nursing services is on the increase from doctors and people in residential settings.

"There is a big demand for blood collection home calls at this time, particularly with Covid-19 being so prevalent. Patients who wish to use the service must request a form from their GP, consultant, or hospital, make contact with Heartlands Nursing Services and one of our trained nursing and phlebotomist team will visit their residence to draw and collect a blood sample. The blood sample is then delivered to the laboratory for testing, the results of which are forwarded back to the requesting doctor," explains Mary.

Other services like the disconnection of chemotherapy without having to travel to a major hospital can be done by Heartlands Nursing Services in your home, while dressings can also be managed and maintained.

Mary, who lives in Kiltoom, has a wealth of experience in the healthcare industry with a degree in intensive care nursing.

Having worked for seven years in Melbourne, Australia in the intensive care setting and in the community, she returned to Ireland to commence work in the Midlands with a private medical company. She has also worked as a practice nurse in a private GP surgery.

A trained phlebotomist, Mary has vast experience in the healthcare sector and is encouraging those who wish to avail of this innovative initiative to call 0894147625 or email:enquiries@heartlandsnursingservices.ie for further information.
