VIDEO: Ballinasloe duo tackle Jerusalema challenge during charity fundraiser

Two friends from Ballinasloe who are taking part in a 280,000 steps charity challenge have completed the Jerusalema dance routine to help promote their fundraising campaign.

Carol Moloney Nott and her neighbour Karagh Kelly committed to walking 10,000 steps each day in February to raise money for LauraLynn, Ireland's Children's Hospice.

Last Sunday, in the grounds of Garbally College, they performed the viral dance routine along with Olivia Blake (Carol's sister) and Marie Fox (Karagh's Mum).

Carol, who is married to Cormac Nott from Coosan, Athlone, works in childcare and decided to take up the charity challenge with Karagh in order to provide added motivation for keeping active this month.

"LauraLynn is a fabulous hospice so I thought, if I'm going to go out walking, I might as well go walking for a good cause," she told the Westmeath Independent.

Karagh contacted her last Friday to suggest the Jerusalema challenge and, after rehearsing over the weekend, they recorded the video on Sunday afternoon.

As they strutted their stuff, they wore LauraLynn t-shirts and Ireland rugby jerseys, to mark the start of the Six Nations campaign that day.

"We rehearsed over two days and then we just went for it. It was a bit of fun, a bit of craic!" said Carol.

Poignantly, Karagh dedicated the video to her grandmother, Joan Farrelly (née Darcy), of Shannonbridge, who sadly died on January 7 last.

Even though we are not yet halfway through this month, Carol said yesterday that she's already completed 160,000 steps (over 80km) for the charity challenge.

"I'll probably hit 280,000 steps next week, but my fundraiser finishes on March 1, and I'll keep going until then, to see how I get on!"

Carol's fundraising effort has also been going well, with almost €1,300 raised to date. You can contribute to it here: https://www.facebook.com/donate/416073872931125/4012196108799286/
