New public lighting on the way for Hillcourt

Mayor of Athlone Cllr Aengus O'Rourke has welcomed a new scheme of public lighting on the way in the coming weeks for the Hillcourt area.

"In recent times I have had a lot of contact from the residents in Hillcourt regarding the poor standard of public lighting in the estate. A number of the lights have not been working for a considerable length of time.

"While at first, you might think the problem was just blown bulbs, it transpired that the lighting heads and connections in some cases were simply beyond repair.

Athlone's Mayor said he has been working with the Public Lighting section of Westmeath County Council to find a solution for Hillcourt in the Cartrontroy area. And, rather than have a piece-meal fix carried out to the existing lights, he has made a strong case to the council for all of the lights in Hillcourt to be replaced with new low energy lighting heads.

"I am very pleased that the council have agreed with my proposal and they confirmed to me that this work will be carried out in the coming weeks. This news will come as welcome relief to the homeowners and residents in the area," he said, adding that LED lights produce light up to 90% more efficiently than the existing incandescent light bulbs often used in public lighting.

"I am also working on public lighting matters for a number of other residential areas as we transition from the old system to a new, more efficient LED system," he ended.
