Sheehan makes milestone appearance as club gives injury update

Alan Sheehan made his 450th appearance in English football when he played for League One outfit Northampton Town last Saturday.

Interestingly, the Athlone man's milestone appearance came against one of his former clubs, Swindon Town.

Otherwise, it wasn't a memorable day for Sheehan as his involvement in the game ended through injury after 24 minutes, with Fraser Horsfall introduced in place of the experienced defender.

In addition, Swindon won the game 2-1 despite Ryan Watson giving the visitors the lead in the 26th minute.

Northampton caretaker manager Jon Brady said he is waiting for the results of a scan to assess Sheehan's injury.

“Alan has gone for a scan and we are awaiting the results,” Brady told the Northampton Town website.

“When we get those back we will assess the situation but hopefully it’s nothing too serious."

Brady was installed as the Cobblers' caretaker boss following last month's sacking of Keith Curle and his assistant Colin West.

Northampton claimed a badly needed 2-0 victory over Plymouth Argyle last night (Tuesday). The home win over Plymouth (with Watson scoring both goals) leaves Northampton in 22nd position of the 24 teams in League One.
