Harry Clarke window relocated to Coláiste Chiaráin
The Leaving Certificate class of 2021 returned to the grounds of Coláiste Chiaráin on Monday of last week, March 1, to witness a new addition to the central area.
The famous ‘Harry Clarke’ window, which originally venerated the old house in St Aloysius College, found a new home in Coláiste Chiaráin.
The name of Harry Clarke is synonymous with quality craftsmanship and imaginative genius in his stained glass work. During his short life Harry created over 160 stained glass windows for religious and commercial commissions throughout Ireland and England, and further afield.
When St Aloysius College closed in 2017, the window was removed for restoration and safekeeping. Following the amalgamation of St Aloysius College with St Joseph’s College in 2017, it was agreed the stained glass window should form the centerpiece of the newly-formed Coláiste Chiaráin school.
The window, depicting St Patrick, is thought to have hung in the listed house building at St Aloysius College for over 50 years.
