Two Midland towns among worst three for new COVID-19 cases

Tullamore has the highest incidence of new COVID-19 cases in the country over the last fortnight.

Figures released last night show there were 141 new cases of COVID-19 in the Tullamore electoral area in the fortnight from March 2 to March 15. At a rate of effectively ten new cases each day, the numbers involved are relatively small.

However, it is the highest rate per population of the State's 166 electoral areas. The rate of 483.6 per 100,000 population is over three times the national average.

And the electoral area around Longford town has the third highest 14-day rate in the country.

Offaly has been among the worst affected counties in the country over recent weeks – so it's not surprising to find part of the county identified as the worst affected in the country over that fortnightly period.

WORST FIVE AREAS

Tullamore 483.6

North Inner City, Dublin 443.3

Longford 442.5
