€500,000 funding granted for new trails at forest park in Roscommon

The Government has this morning announced €500,000 in funding for the development of new trails at Mote Forest Park in Roscommon.

The money is due to be used to "develop ground and vertical trails with educational elements," as well as "a parking and cycle loop to Beara Breffni Way at Athleague and Castlestrange onto Roscommon town."

It's part of €6 million allocation nationally for 14 adventure tourism projects, announced by Minister Heather Humphreys.

"These projects will support the development and expansion of significant outdoor amenities and trails throughout the country which will benefit local communities and visitors alike," said Minister Humpreys.

"The investment will also have major spin-off economic benefits for our rural communities."

The announcement was welcomed on social media by local TD Denis Naughten:
