A financial support package is needed for the GAA ahead of the resumption of inter-county games, a Fine Gael Senator has said.

Senator Carrigy said: “The GAA needs a new financial support package in place ahead of the resumption of inter-county games.
“Counties need certainty as they enter a second week of preparations. They have all experienced significant reductions in annual funding due to a lack of gate receipts and reduced sponsorship and media rights.
“It is fantastic that games are set to resume. We all took great enjoyment from last year’s All Ireland series and communities up and down the country are looking forward to cheering on their teams this year.
“In order to make this possible I am calling for the necessary financial support to be put in place. I raised this with the Minister for Sport in the recent Oireachtas Committee meeting and he committed to engaging with the GAA. I hope that certainty can be given to county boards as soon as possible”, Senator Carrigy concluded.
