Athlone Castle announces reopening date

Athlone Castle Visitor Centre will reopen its doors on Thursday, May 13.

As one of the main heritage attractions in Ireland's Hidden Heartlands, Athlone Castle offers something for all ages and interests to enjoy, from discovering more about the history of the castle, Athlone and its people, to having a family picnic in the castle courtyard, buying a gift in the new retail space or just enjoying the panoramic views of Athlone.

The castle will return with a host of safe on-site and virtual activities this summer for all the family. Highlights include an expanded Heritage Week programme of events, from weapons demonstrations to bow making, online lectures to podcasts and even informative and interesting sneak peeks inside our museum collections.

Younger audiences are encouraged to get involved in Athlone Castle's annual Cruinniú na nÓg celebrations including a recently announced Creative Writing competition, writing workshops and storytelling events.
