Brideswell nursing home proposes doubling capacity

A 44-bed extension could be on the cards for a nursing home in Brideswell, should ambitious new plans move forward.

TBNH Ltd, which operates Tearmainn Bhríde Nursing Home in the village, signalled the move which would more than double the capacity in a recent planning notice.

The nursing home signalled its intention to submit new plans to Roscommon County Council for a substantial expansion of current operations.

What's proposed is an extension to the existing nursing home incorporating 44 en-suite bedrooms, two dining rooms, a living room and activity room.

In addition, a laundry area, staff area, a kitchen, utility room and toilets also form part of the project in the nursing home, which has been operating in Brideswell village since 1997.

Additional car parking and a new wastewater treatment plant is also earmarked for the site, the planning notice indicates.

The family-operated nursing home is currently registered to accommodate 29 residents, according to its website, and there is retirement village of standalone homes adjacent to the main building.

At the time of going to press, the formal plans have yet to appear on the Roscommon County Council website.

However, the applicant has a fortnight from the date the planning notice is published to lodge the particulars with the local authority.
