Athlone jockey's ride leaves the pundits purring

Kielan Woods was the toast of the horse racing world on Monday with a sensational ride that had the Racing Post saying it had a case for ride of the month.

Woods was aboard 13/2 shot Hattaab who seemed out of contention as they came into the home straight but under constant urging from Woods got up in the final strides to take the 2m 7f handicap hurdle in Worcester.

The Racing Post said: "Kielan Woods put in a bold shout for ride of the month when winning division one of the 2m7f handicap hurdle on Hattaab. The pair looked beaten on the turn for home but the Graeme McPherson-trained eight-year-old continued to stay on before charging past the favourite Durouyn in the last 100 yards."

At The Races were equally effusive. See the closing stages here (Hattaab is in the red silks, with yellow hat, on outside).
