Connacht glory for Roscommon U20 footballers

There was glory for Roscommon U20 footballers last night in sun-kissed Castlebar when they comprehensively overcame Mayo, 2-11 to 1-7, to take the Eirgrid Connacht u20 championship.

Roscommon took over from the first water break and with a particularly strong third quarter they stunned the pre-match favourites to secure a famous win.

Roscommon were just a point up at half time but struck for a crucial goal on 40 minutes through Adam McDermott to put them seven points up.

Goalkeeper Conor Carroll then saved a Mayo penalty from the boot of Jack Mahon and Roscommon finished strongly with a James Fitzpatrick goal the icing on the cake.
