Irish Water says Moate-area supply is returning with latest pipe burst fixed

Irish Water said this evening that people in Moate and other parts of Westmeath whose water supply was affected by a series of pipe bursts in recent days should be seeing it return to normal after the latest burst was fixed.

"Irish Water, working with Westmeath County Council, has successfully restored the water supply to customers in Ballynacarrigy, Moyvore, Ballymore, Moyvoughley, Moate and Kilgawny, Rathconrath and surrounding areas following a series of bursts on watermains near Bunbrosna, Mullingar," it said in a statement issued at 6.20pm.

"Crews were on site since Tuesday, July 20 working to repair the bursts that occurred one after the other and full supply is restoring to all customers."

John Gavin of Irish Water said the repairs had been "complex" as a result of the "location and extent of the bursts."

Despite the positive update on the repair work, it's understood that, as of 6.30pm, some areas of Moate still have not seen their water supply return.

Local residents have been dealing with water outages each day since Tuesday, as we reported earlier here.
