Portiuncula has country's fourth-highest number of patients on trolleys

Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe had the fourth-highest number of patients on trolleys nationally this morning, according to figures issued on behalf of the Irish Nurses and Midwives Association (INMO).

The INMO's Trolley Watch indicated that there were 22 patients on trolleys at the East Galway hospital this morning (Tuesday), which was up by two from the previous day.

Eight of these patients were waiting in the Emergency Department, while fourteen were in wards elsewhere in the hospital.

Only University Hospital Limerick (51), Cork University Hospital (41), and University Hospital Galway (28), had higher numbers of patients awaiting beds at the beginning of the day.

Elsewhere in the Midlands region, there were 11 patients on trolleys at the Midland Regional Hospital in Tullamore, and 4 on trolleys at the Midland Regional Hospital in Mullingar, this morning.

Nationally, a total of 317 admitted patients were waiting on beds this morning, according to the Trolley Watch figures.
