Be part of Westmeath Community Time Machine Project

Neighbourhood Network is working in Westmeath to create ‘The Community Time Machine’- a new artistic cross-generational initiative currently recruiting participants. The Time Machine is a unique digital neighbourhood time capsule project which connects communities across the country, supported by the local authorities and Creative Ireland.

It’s a simple and fun way to have a positive impact and strengthen community connections. Ciara has been working as a community organiser, connecting young people and seniors who live in her area to facilitate interviews, inspire them to create art works and capture images in order to show how the community looks now and how it looked in the past. She said: “This project has been a really eye opening experience for the young participants and me, seeing the joy the area has brought to so many people even in the toughest of times.”

It’s not too late to get involved - Neighbourhood Network still has a few spots available for community organisers. If you or anyone you know might be interested in participating in the project, visit neighbourhoodnetwork.ie/time-machine/ and get in touch.

Neighbourhood Network also has opportunities for individual participation in Westmeath - if you know of a young person that might want to get involved, spread the word.

It is a great way to get to know more about your community and its history, create something unique and show your support to the teenagers and seniors of your community.

Neighbourhood Network came from the team behind Street Feast, a national neighbourhood street party event to celebrate community. It is a not-for-profit, community building organisation, all about building and strengthening neighbourhoods and kick-starting ideas for positive community participation.

At its core, it focuses on reducing loneliness and social isolation by creating community connections.

“We do this by running projects that promote neighbourliness, social inclusion, volunteerism and creativity in the community,” a spokesperson said.

Visit the neighbourhoodnetwork.ie website for more information and how to get involved.
