Westmeath Bachelor Festival confirmed for May bank holiday weekend 2022

The organisers of The Westmeath Bachelor Festival have announced that event will take place over the May bank holiday weekend in 2022.

This time around they are combining The Westmeath Bachelor Competition with a three-day music festival in Mullingar town centre, subject to relevant permissions. The organisers are in advanced talks with local authorities and stakeholders and hope to announce the location in the coming weeks.

The festival will comprise three different themed nights:

Friday April 29: Lakelands Sessions – three of the best known pop and rock artists and groups in the country.

Saturday April 30: Lakelands Showbands show – including the best known names on the showband circuit.

Sunday May 1: Lakelands Barndance – starring Ireland’s leading country music stars; followed by The Westmeath Bachelor Competition judged by four well known national celebrities.

The idea of the three-day festival is to give back to the local businesses and community who supported The Westmeath Bachelor Festival in the postponed event in 2020.

In a statement, the organisers said: “We estimate that the events will bring in €1.5m to the community over the weekend. Every business, restaurant, hotel and pub will get a spin-off from what we hope will become an annual event that will mimic the Rose of Tralee festival, in Mullingar town centre.

“We envisage that tickets for the events will go on sale in late October and urge the public to get theirs as early as possible as tickets will be limited due to venue size.”
