Teen released without charge following drugs seizure

A teenage boy, who was questioned following the seizure of drugs worth just over €113,000 on Tuesday night, has been released without charge.

The haul, a mixture of heroin, cannabis, diazepam tablets and cocaine, was discovered following the search of a residential property on the Leinster side of Athlone by local detectives.

In all, heroin worth a total of €79,240, cannabis with a street value of €25,000, €6,700 worth of diazepam tablets and €2,310 of cocaine were all found during the course of the search on Tuesday night at 8.15pm.

A 15-year-old boy was arrested at the scene and he was detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice act 1984 in Athlone Garda Station. He was released without charge on Wednesday evening.

A file will now be prepared for Director of Prosecutions and the Garda Youth Diversion Office.
