Norton completes Ironman challenge in Barcelona

Coosan native Sean Norton completed the incredible achievement of Ironman Barcelona 2021 recently.

Sean’s amazing endurance got him through a swim, cycle and run, taking 10 hours and 45 minutes. This was not Sean’s first time to undertake an Ironman challenge. He also completed Ironman Mallorca in Spain 2016 and Ironman Maastricht in the Netherlands in 2017.

Sean yearned to go again in 2020 to do Ironman Barcelona but unfortunately this was cancelled due to the Coronavirus. Sean’s determination and persistence continued with his training throughout this time, cycling at such early times as 5am in the morning before work, swimming in Coosan Point in the evenings and running at the weekends.

This year Sean got what he had worked for and he travelled with his supportive partner Orla Berry and their young son Luca to Barcelona. Sean surpassed his previous best Ironman time for this year which he was very pleased about.

Sean is a son of John and the late Theresa Norton. Sean's mum Theresa passed away at a very young age in 2017. Theresa’s birthday actually fell on the weekend that Sean completed his Ironman challenge in Barcelona.
