Fogarty hits new marathon milestone in Rotterdam

Local athlete Mick Fogarty smashed his marathon personal best time in Rotterdam last Sunday.

Fogarty from Athlone, and a member of Ferbane AC, recorded a sensational time of 2 hours, 31 minutes over the 26.2 mile course in the Netherlands.

Not far behind was Ferbane AC colleague Paul Buckley, who posted a time of 2.38, with Ferbane AC's Paul Conlon coming home in 2.46.

Fogarty, who has been in hugely impressive form this year, was the second male in the over-40 category, while Buckley was the third over-45 male.

Congratulating the three athletes, Ferbane AC said: "When taking into account that there were nearly 11,000 finishers on the day, this puts some context into what the guys have achieved.

“The trio have transferred their excellent home form to the European stage and the club are extremely proud of their success. Well done lads."

Meanwhile, another Ferbane AC athlete, Carol Dunican took part in the Valencia half marathon in Spain last Sunday.
