Tractor run is a roaring success raising over €15k

Organisers of a recent tractor run have expressed their delight with the final tally of €15,215 raised for Ballymahon Day Care Centre.

Over 150 tractors, old and new, took part in the Ballymahon Tractor Run fundraiser on October 3 bringing a great buzz around the town where it kicked off, and later in Tang, where they stopped for refreshments, a break and to admire all of the other machinery!

In between as the convoy, which had participants from as far away as Roscommon, Ballinacargy, Athlone and Longford, drove along the route people were out watching and cheering, something that was appreciated by all involved as was their fantastic generosity.

Chief organisers Mike Egan and Darren Mulledy said the tractor run was a huge success and it was down to everyone who came on board as main sponsors, many local businesses who gave prizes for the raffle, the people who bought and sold tickets, to everyone who gave up their time on the day to help with the running of the event and all of the fantastic participants.

On Thursday last (October 14), the duo handed over a cheque for €15,215 to Breda Greaves, Manager of Ballymahon Day Care Centre, and its trustees Barney Steele and Brendan Murtagh.

“Both Mike Egan and myself are delighted with the end result. Seeing our neighbours and friends enjoying their time in the centre, having dinner and doing activities and chatting to their friends makes everything worthwhile,” Darren Mulledy said following the presentation event in the centre where they met clients, staff and management.

“Ballymahon Day Care Centre has no county or parish boundaries and it was great to see everyone pulling together on the day,” added Darren, who hailed the community spirit the event generated and the response of so many people in rural Ireland to their efforts to raise some money to ensure the area's senior citizens have a place they can go and feel safe and enjoy each others company.
